What is an NFC business card and how does it work

Discover the NFC technology that turns a simple tap into an instant professional connection — no app, no complicated QR codes.

NFC stands for Near Field Communication — it's the same technology you use for contactless payments with your smartphone. Embedded in a physical business card, it lets you share your digital profile with a simple tap. The recipient doesn't need to download any app.

How does it work technically? Inside every KLEPA card there is a passive 13.56 MHz chip. When you hold the card near any modern smartphone (iPhone 7 or later, any NFC-enabled Android), the phone reads the chip and automatically opens your KLEPA profile in the browser.

The profile contains everything you would put on a traditional business card — name, role, company, phone, email, website — plus social links, portfolio, intro video, lead capture forms, and more. It's updatable in real time from your dashboard: changed jobs? New number? Update the profile online, no reprinting needed.

KLEPA cards also work as a printed QR code on the back, and as a shareable link via WhatsApp, email, or SMS. Anyone whose phone can't read NFC can always scan the QR code instead.

Compared to traditional paper cards, the advantage is twofold: no paper waste or reprint costs, and always up-to-date information. Industry data shows that 63% of paper business cards are thrown away within a week of being received. With KLEPA, your contact doesn't disappear in a drawer: it stays in the recipient's phone as a digital bookmark.

KLEPA cards are manufactured in Italy, using certified materials and professional-grade NFC technology. Each card is tested before shipping to ensure reliable reading at any angle and at distances from 0 to 4 cm.
